Financial Assistance
We understand the financial burdens that support for our d/hh kids can place on families. While our chapter is not able to help families with the costs directly, we do have a list of resources which may help. Please look through the links to see if one of these agencies, businesses, organizations or tools can help you with funding.
Our mission at UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation is to provide medical grants that enhance the quality of life for children across the United States. These grants give kids the care they need by helping with medical expenses not covered, or not fully covered, by their family’s commercial health insurance.
Prescription hearing aids and services can cost thousands of dollars and are often not covered by insurance. Other assistance may be available for adults and children and may vary by state.
From music and dance to sports and school, children and teens with hearing loss should have every opportunity to live a life without limits! That’s why we offer financial aid and scholarships for all ages, from preschool to graduate school.
For every application we must receive documentation of a bilateral hearing loss in the moderately-severe to profound range and the use of listening and spoken language.
Financing needed for hearing devices is often a challenge for families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Public and private insurance programs and nonprofit organizations can help meet these needs.
Providing the Deaf and Hard of Hearing with financial support as
most insurance companies do not cover hearing aids.
The Joyful Life Cochlear Implant Fund is committed to helping as many cochlear implant recipients as possible.
There are several options available regarding financial assistance for hearing aids listed in this section. Some options for financial assistance come through government agencies, some through non-profit agencies, and some are offered by private foundations. There are also programs that loan equipment and others provide refurbished equipment. Eligibility for assistance varies depending on financial need, age, and / or other eligibility requirements. Please contact each individual agency for the details of that specific program.
Since 2005, CIAF’s Hear Again™ program has provided refurbished cochlear implant equipment to individuals in need. What began as a small collection in a founder’s basement has grown into a globally unique, digitally cataloged inventory bank. Through applications for Cochlear Corporation or Advanced Bionics devices, eligible applicants are matched with available equipment and connected through their audiologist or doctor to restore access to sound.
